Description

Environmental chemistry is a new, fast developing science aimed at deciphering fundamental mechanisms ruling the behaviour of pollutants in ecosystems. Applying this knowledge to current environmental issues leads to the remediation of environmental media, and to new, low energy, low emission, sustainable processes. This book describes the state-of-the-art advances regarding the pollution of water, soils, atmosphere, food and living organisms by toxic metals, fossil fuels, pesticides and other organic pollutants. Furthermore, the eco-toxicology section presents novel bio-assays to assess the toxicity of various pollutants such as dioxins and endocrine disrupters within complex media. The green chemistry section highlights novel chemical reactions based upon environmentally friendly conditions. The analytical chemistry section describes very sensitive methods which trace the fate of pollutants in complex ecosystems.

This special low-priced edition is for sale in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka Only.

About The Author:

Dr. ERIC LICHTFOUSE completed his Ph.D. in organic geochemistry in 1989 at Strasbourg University. After post-doctoral fellowships at Indiana University and the research center in Juelich he became engaged as a research scientist at the French National Institute of Agronomical Research (INRA) in 1992. In 2000 he founded the European Association of Chemistry and Environment (ACE) and in 2003 the journal Environmental Chemistry Letters. He is currently working in Dijon for the INRA Department of Environment and Agronomy as the Editor-in-Chief of Agronomy for Sustainable Development (EDPS). Eric Lichtfouse is also finisher of 4 ironman competitions.

Between 1987 and 1993 Dr. JAN SCHWARZBAUER studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg, following which he finished his Ph.D. studies on environmental analysis of particulate matter from the Elbe river system in 1997. Since 1998 he has been engaged as the leader of the working group `Environmental Organic Chemistry` at the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of Petroleum and Coal (RWTH Aachen University). Since being awarded his professorship in June 2004, he has continued his work as an assistant professor. He co-founded the journal Environmental Chemistry Letters in 2003 and currently holds the position of Editor-in-Chief.

In 1994 Dr. DIDIER ROBERT completed his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Metz University. Since 1995 he has been engaged as an assistant professor at the same university where he continued his studies of the deconstamination of water by photochemical processes, especially by solar photocatalysis. He founded the European Association of Chemistry and Environment (ACE) in 2000 and co-founded the journal Environmental Chemistry Letters in 2003. Currently he is head of the chemical department of the University of Metz (IUT) and also holds the position of Editor-in-Chief for the journal Environmental Chemistry Letters.
