Description

Bhaumik offers us his remarkable rags to riches story, his understanding of the true nature of science, and his vision of spirituality as that which gives meaning to our lives.

Code Name God chronicles the amazing life of a man who is from both the east and the west, who finally discovers that "happiness is an inside job" and now invites us to join him on a cosmic dance across that vast expanse where God and the scientists, religion and faith, science and mysticism meet.

One day, Mani Bhaumik was sipping Chateau Lafite Rothschild with Hollywood celebrities enjoying the life of a self-made and successful entrepreneur. The next, he was on his knees before the enormous emptiness of that existence and searching for answers to questions he hadn't asked for a long time. The questions led straight to the root of some well-known mysteries. Einstein famously said that, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." Code Name God attempts to elaborate on this profound truth. Dr. Bhaumik's journey through poverty, education, science, and success led to his effort to bridge the gap between modern physics, spirituality and cosmology.

A Book For Every Spiritual Seeker "Both spirituality and science are essential to human beings and always have been. Strangely enough, the same scientific method that once compelled us to question the existence of God is now, by way of advanced physics and cosmology, developing evidence that tends to support our age-old belief in a transcendent power." -From The Book "The author s personal odyssey from a life of abject poverty in Bengal to one of excessive luxury in Hollywood, from ancient Indian wisdom to advanced laser physics, and finally back to his roots in the attempt to find common ground between Eastern spirituality and Western Science is eloquently told and makes for fascinating reading." -FRITJOF CAPRA, author of the best selling The Tao of Physics "The merging of matter and spirit, as presented in this book, might facilitate a much needed evolutionary step forward in our capacity to love and be fair." -Laura (Mrs. Aldous) Huxley, Founder of

Children: Our Ultimate Investment "Mani Bhaumik offers us his scientific genius in order to present a compelling new argument for mysticism and faith. His conclusions are rich, vivid and contemporary; his propositions honestly and generously put forth. This book is a gift to the world and a powerful story beautifully told." -Paula D Arcy, author of Sacred Threshold and A New Set of Eyes. Code Name God chronicles the amazing life of a man who is from both the East and the West, who finally discovers that "happiness is an inside job" and now invites us to join him on a cosmic dance across that vast expanse where God and the scientists, religion and faith, science and mysticism meet. From the Author
As an impressionable teenager, I had the exceptional privilege of living in the camp of a remarkable individual. US Secretary of State George Marshal described him as the spokesman for the conscience of humanity. Albert Einstein pronounced that generations to come will scarcely believe such a man ever walked upon this earth in flesh and blood. His name was Mahatma Gandhi, considered as the father of independent India. I heard his words of wisdom from his own lips. His words were simple but spoken with the confidence of a man who proclaimed that his life was his message. One particularly became forever etched in my young mind. He said, "One must be the change one wishes to see in the world." What do we want to see in the world? We want to get rid of poverty and have material abundance. We want to get rid of suffering and have an abiding happiness, which seem to require a life rich in spirituality. I have tried to do that in my own humble way, as you will read in Code Name God.

As a skeptical scientist, I also had to find the scientific evidence to support that spirituality is essential for enduring happiness. I have presented the evidence, especially from the study of the biography of the universe and the nature of the quantum world, in terms understandable to non-scientists with the hope that it will change their lives as well.

This compelling, beautifully written narrative is one man's rags-to-riches story, and more profoundly, the vision of a world-class physicist seeking to integrate the findings of science, religion, and the spiritual quest. Born in the impoverished Indian province of Bengal, Dr. Mani Bhaumik grew up in a spiritually rich tradition, and through steadfast determination managed to escape abject poverty. Eventually he became a scientist whose hard work and brilliance led him to be the co-inventor of the excimer laser the class of laser that made LASIK corrective eye surgery possible. Dr. Bhaumik's scientific accomplishments and entrepreneurial success won him professional acclaim and a life so storied that he landed a spot on Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous. But realizing that fame and fortune could not provide him with the spiritual meaning that all of us seek, Mani began the search for a deeper understanding of spirituality. One day, Mani Bhaumik was sipping Chateau Lafite Rothschild with Hollywood celebrities enjoying the life of a self-made and successful entrepreneur. The next, he was on his knees before the enormous emptiness of that existence, and searching for answers to questions he hadn't asked for a long time. The questions led straight to the root of some well-known mysteries. Einstein famously said that, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." Code Name God attempts to elaborate on this profound truth. Dr. Bhaumik's journey through poverty, education, science, and success led to his effort to bridge the gap between modern physics, spirituality, and cosmology.

Editorial Reviews

Dr. Mani Bhaumik is the co-inventor of the laser technology that made Lasik eye surgery possible. His contributions to science merited the rare dual election as a fellow of the American Physical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, while his successes won him a spot on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Eventually he discovered that :happiness is an inside job," and immersed himself in study of the hidden relationship between science and spirituality and the integration of mind and matter. He has published over fifty papers in professional journals and maintains a lively correspondence with other physicists around the world. His alma mater, Indian Institute of Technology, bestowed him with an honorary D.Sc. degree for lifetime academic achievements. Dr. Bhaumik is the founder of the Mani Bhaumik Educational Foundation, which currently provides full scholarships to sixty seven extremely bright but underprivileged Indian young men and women to enable them to earn a university degree in science, engineering or medicine. His US Foundation, Cosmogenics, is set up to foster research in consciousness and healing as well as mind/body integration. Dr. Bhaumik is the creator of a forthcoming animated TV series, focused on getting children interested in science. He lives in Southern California.
